P.S. Is there a reason there is so much unnoccupied land on the island, especially on those hills? Is it not right for building or protected by government against construction or people just aren't moving to the island or? It's so lovely I would think someone would want to have a house high up top to enjoy the scenery -- as often are found here in CA -- but so dang costly!
Shetland has loads of unoccupied land. The reason is, there are loads of crofts (basically small farms) So the land is used for keeping sheep on, a little crops are grown too, but sheep is by far the most kept. So, if you wanted a little land to build a house, you would need to go talk to whoever owns the land, and ask to buy some from him. If the owner agrees to sell, the land would be de-crofted, meaning it would legally be separated from his croft land, and then if you got planning permission, you could then build your house Hope that made some sense?
Cut sailboat? Is that what it's called? I watched an old Jimmy Stewart/Maureen O'Hara movie "Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation" and they called little boats like that "splatter boxes"? Cute movie. Cute boat.
